The eligibility to write the UPSC CS exam is that any Graduate from a recognized university of Indian origin. The candidate must be at least 21 years old. The candidate may start preparing for the exam during their graduation and can write the exam while in their last year of college and he/she must be able to produce all the required documents at the time of joining the training academy. 

Anywhere near 1 to 1.5 years of preparation is enough, depending upon the grasping ability and the clarity of the basics of the subjects included in the preparation of the exam.

The candidate can take this examination in any of the 22 languages included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India. The Preliminary exam is conducted in Hindi and English language. Some compulsory exams in the Mains examination are needed to be taken in English only. The most popular languages in which this exam is taken is English and Hindi respectively.
